Journalist Olumide Akinrinlola, Publisher of Starnews NG online newspaper, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for their recent landmark infrastructure and energy initiatives aimed at boosting economic growth and development.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Thursday, the Canada-based journalist praised the Ondo State Government for securing a $439 million energy deal expected to improve electricity supply, create employment opportunities, and stimulate industrial expansion within the state.
He also highlighted the £746 million financing agreement secured during President Tinubu’s recent visit to London, which is set to modernise key facilities at the Lagos Port Complex and the TinCan Island Port Complex. According to him, this development will enhance efficiency and strengthen Nigeria’s position in the regional maritime sector.
Akinrinlola noted that these projects come at a critical time when Nigeria faces the urgent need to overhaul its electricity distribution system, which has long been plagued by inefficiencies and corruption. He described the planned revamp of the 30 MW tri-fuel independent power plant in Ore, located in the Odigbo Local Government Area, as a significant step towards reforming the power sector.
He added that the ongoing efforts to upgrade port infrastructure would ease trade operations, improve revenue generation, and create jobs, thereby contributing to broader economic stability and growth.
“The Ondo State Government’s bold signing of a $439 million energy deal will not only boost electricity supply but also create jobs and drive industrial growth in the region.
“Similarly, the £746 million financing agreement signed during President Tinubu’s recent visit to London will modernise critical maritime infrastructure at the Lagos Port Complex and the TinCan Island Port Complex, laying the groundwork for a more efficient and competitive maritime sector.
“These developments come at a pivotal moment for our nation, as Nigeria must transition away from the ineffective and corrupt electricity distribution system that has long hindered progress.
“The new deal to revamp the ODSG 30 MW Tri-Fuel Independent Power Plant at Ore in the Odigbo Local Government Area at the International Industrial Park is a commendable step towards reforming the electricity sector, and we hope it will serve as a catalyst for further advancements.
“The refurbishment of the Lagos Port Complex and the TinCan Island Port Complex will not only facilitate smoother trade flows but also boost Nigeria’s competitiveness in the regional maritime sector. As infrastructure improvements take shape, we can expect significant job creation, increased revenue generation, and a strengthened economic framework that will ultimately benefit both local communities and the nation at large,” the statement stated.
However, Akinrinlola cautioned that rising insecurity across the country could undermine these gains if not urgently addressed. He called on both the federal and Ondo State governments to adopt a more decisive and coordinated approach to tackling security challenges.
“A secure environment is essential to sustain these investments and restore confidence among citizens and investors,” he stated.
Akinrinlola expressed optimism that sustained collaboration between both administrations would pave the way for a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
