Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has surprised social media users with his recent proposal that has caught the attention of many Nigerians.
Sowore is known for his fearless opposition to government officials whom he believes are engaged in corruption and other illegal activities that tarnish the country’s reputation.
He has led various protests, including the recent demand for electronic transmission of election results, which gained traction in the Senate today.
After a significant protest over three days that compelled the federal government to consider the public’s demand for the electoral bill, Sowore took to his X account to suggest that Nigeria should implement mobile voting. He argued that if Nigerians can conduct transactions worth millions of Naira through their mobile phones, they should also be able to vote using the same technology.
He stated, “If you can send millions of Naira from your phone, you should be able to vote from your phone.” He also criticized the Senate President, accusing him of using mobile networks to connect with women in every state he visits.
“There’s no state Akpabio goes to where he doesn’t find a network to connect with his girlfriends. There’s no state Oshiomhole visits where he doesn’t find a network to charm a lady.”
Sowore’s remarks have generated a strong reaction online, with many viewing the idea of mobile voting as a bold and sensible proposal for the country to consider.
