African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has declared that he will never apologise to President Bola Tinubu over the alleged defamatory comments that led to his prosecution.
Sowore made the remarks while speaking with journalists shortly after proceedings in his alleged defamation case at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday.
The activist claimed he had been informed that the criminal charge against him stemmed from his refusal to apologise to the President, a move he said he would not make.
“Someone told me that the reason they’re charging me is because I refused to apologise to President Tinubu. For what? Did I apologise to Buhari?” Sowore said.
He argued that President Tinubu, rather than demanding an apology, should be apologising to Nigerians.
“He’s the one that should be apologizing on a daily basis for presenting himself as a person who is not worthy to lead Nigeria,” he said.
Responding to the allegations against him, Sowore maintained that the authorities should be consistent in enforcing the law, referencing recent comments by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
“They say my crime is that I called him a criminal. Atiku called him a forger and a drug baron yesterday. Let them go and carry Atiku,” he stated.
The alleged defamation case against Sowore is currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
