The South-West chapter of the African Democratic Congress has dismissed reports of internal division, describing them as false, malicious, and politically motivated attempts to misrepresent the party’s structure.
On 26 April 2026, the zonal leadership, through its chairman Akinbowale Omole, stated that allegations of disunity were “fabricated” and intended to create a false impression of instability within the party. He emphasised that the South-West structure remains intact, legally constituted, and fully aligned with the national leadership.
According to the statement, the current leadership emerged through due process, with approval from the party’s National Caucus and endorsement by its national hierarchy, reinforcing its legitimacy.
The development comes amid broader political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, where opposition parties are under increasing scrutiny regarding cohesion and internal stability. Analysts note that such allegations (whether factual or not) often surface during periods of strategic positioning and coalition building.
By firmly rejecting the claims, the ADC aims to project organisational strength and maintain confidence among supporters, particularly in the politically influential South-West region.
The party urged members and the public to disregard unverified reports, reiterating its commitment to unity and its role as a credible opposition force in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
