Former vice president of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has stirred fresh controversy within Nigeria’s Christian community after rejecting the concept of prosperity gospel, insisting that only the gospel of Jesus Christ exists.
On 26 April 2026, Osinbajo, speaking during a church discussion, argued that separating prosperity from the core message of Christianity distorts biblical teaching, maintaining that the gospel is singular and centred on redemption rather than material gain.
His remarks triggered an immediate response from Testimony Jaga, who challenged the former vice president in a viral video.
While agreeing that there is only one gospel, the singer argued that the realities of poverty cannot be ignored, insisting that faith teachings should also address people’s material struggles.
Jaga further questioned Osinbajo’s moral authority, referencing his time in public office and calling for evidence of tangible impact on the poor.
The exchange has ignited broader public discourse on the role of wealth, faith, and accountability in modern Christianity, exposing a deep divide between strictly spiritual interpretations and those advocating a more socio-economic approach to religious teaching.
