Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has stirred nationwide debate after speaking openly about young women engaging in transactional relationships, popularly known as “runs,” as a means of survival amid worsening economic hardship in Nigeria.
During a recent interview, the actress advised that while survival pressures may push some people into desperate choices, such lifestyles should not become permanent.
Shaffy Bello stated that many young Nigerians are battling unemployment, poverty, and rising living costs, making financial survival increasingly difficult. However, she stressed the importance of personal growth, dignity, and long-term ambition beyond temporary survival decisions.
Her comments generated mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians praising her honesty about economic realities, while others criticized the remarks as capable of normalizing morally questionable behavior among struggling youths.
