A senior finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Borno State, marking a significant breakthrough in Nigeria’s ongoing counter-insurgency campaign against terrorist groups in the North-East. The surrender occurred on Saturday, July 25, 2026, along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis of the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the surrendered insurgent served as the Chief Finance Operative of the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram, where he was responsible for managing the group’s finances and logistics.
He surrendered alongside his two male children, handing over one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, and ₦40,000 in cash.
The military disclosed that the development comes amid an increasing wave of defections, with approximately 46 terrorists and their family members voluntarily laying down their arms in recent days following sustained land and air offensives against terrorist enclaves across the North-East.
Authorities described the surrender as a major setback for ISWAP, saying it reflects the continued erosion of the group’s command structure, operational capability and logistics network under sustained military pressure.
The surrendered operative is currently undergoing profiling and interrogation to provide intelligence that will support ongoing operations against remaining terrorist elements in the region.
