Russian Missile Attack Kills 15 in Kyiv Region as Moscow, Ukraine Intensify Strikes

At least 15 people have been killed and dozens more injured following overnight Russian missile strikes on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, and surrounding areas, as fighting between Russia and Ukraine continues to intensify.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said rescue operations were ongoing under dangerous conditions due to the threat of additional Russian attacks. Images released by emergency officials showed extensive damage to industrial buildings and warehouse facilities across the Kyiv region.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 24 ballistic missiles and four anti-ship missiles during the assault. The military did not report intercepting any of the missiles, highlighting Ukraine’s dwindling stockpile of air defence interceptors.

The latest attack comes amid a surge in civilian casualties. Ukrainian authorities say Russian attacks killed at least 377 civilians and wounded more than 2,100 others in July, making it the deadliest month since April 2022.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence confirmed carrying out what it described as a “massive strike” using precision-guided weapons and long-range drones.
Moscow claimed the operation targeted transport, logistics and distribution centres allegedly used for storing weapons, military supplies and producing unmanned aerial vehicles.

Meanwhile, Ukraine launched its own overnight strikes into Russia, targeting another Wildberries logistics centre in the Tula region. Russian authorities reported damage to the facility, as well as two apartment buildings and other industrial sites.

Russia also said Ukrainian drone attacks and shelling killed at least 61 people and injured 327 others during the final week of July.

The latest escalation follows recent cross-border attacks by both countries. Earlier this week, Russia said debris from a Ukrainian drone strike killed at least seven people on a crowded beach in southern Russia. Separately, footage circulated online showed a Russian drone pursuing a vegetable vendor in Ukraine’s Kherson region before exploding, leaving the man injured.

The renewed exchange of strikes underscores the escalating conflict, with both sides increasingly targeting infrastructure and logistics facilities far beyond the front lines, raising concerns over the growing impact of the war on civilians.
