Residents Name Jimoh Ibrahim as Next Ondo Governor

Residents of Ondo State have begun describing Senator (Amb.) Jimoh Ibrahim as the state’s next governor, following an opinion article published by Starnews NG on October 12, 2026.

The article, written by Niyi Iwakun, examined Senator Ibrahim’s piece, “I Am the Governor,” which focused on the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Although the opinion article was not about the 2028 governorship election, many readers used the comment section to express their support for Jimoh Ibrahim’s possible governorship ambition.

Ayetan Olayinka described Ibrahim as the “next governor of Ondo State” and appealed to Governor Aiyedatiwa to support him. “Don’t forget this man has shaped Ondo State before you became governor. Even late Akeredolu knew that Jimoh Ibrahim is a man of his words. If not for him standing against the stooge of Mimiko, Aiyedatiwa might not be talking about becoming vice-governor or governor today. Please give him his flowers,” Olayinka wrote.

Akin Seyi also described him as the “incoming governor of Ondo State”, while Olusegun David wrote: “Jimoh is going to be our next governor in Ondo State. He is going to complete the four years before Akure takes over, then BTO can come out. This is how we want it in Ondo State.”

Oluwakayode Oluwanifise expressed confidence in Ibrahim’s wider political future, writing: “No doubts, the next governor and president in the future soonest.” Akinshola Adejuwon said residents had already identified the person they believed could reshape the state. “We in Ondo State have already known where to go and who will reshape our state. Let us follow the only one and ever, Amb. Jimoh Folorunsho Ibrahim, for governor of Ondo State in the next election,” he wrote.

Olutope Ajayi described Ibrahim as “a competent incoming excellency”, while Favour Amaechi wrote: “Yes, CFR, the next governor.”

Wale Ademokun posted in capital letters: “IBRAHIM IS OUR NEXT GOVERNOR OF ONDO STATE.”
Other comments included Akingbehin Femi’s “Jimoh is our next governor”; Agbegbe Arataye’s “Incoming governor”; Ijimakinwa Odutola’s “Araba for governor”; and Aro Femi’s message: “Next governor.”

According to the reactions reviewed by Starnews NG, about 80 per cent of the comments endorsed Ibrahim as a potential next governor of Ondo State. Several others used the platform to thank him, commend his contributions and offer prayers for him.

A small number of the comments, estimated at less than two per cent, were comical in nature.

The reactions have drawn attention to the growing political goodwill expressed by some residents towards Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, even though the original article was written as an opinion piece on Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration and was not related to the 2028 governorship election.
