A House of Representatives aspirant for the Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency, Mr. Olumide Omosuyi, has congratulated the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by David Mark, on the recent Supreme Court judgment.

In a statement on Thursday, Omosuyi commended the party leaders in Ondo State, describing the ruling as a victory for democracy and the rule of law. He praised the justices of the Supreme Court for what he termed a landmark decision, noting that the verdict would strengthen democratic institutions in the country.

“The judgment is a reflection of the independence of the judiciary and a boost to democratic practice in Nigeria,” Omosuyi stated.

However, the aspirant criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of attempting to suppress opposition voices in the country. He expressed that the APC is jittery and scared of the opposition, having failed the country. He warned that efforts to silence opposition parties could undermine the nation’s democracy.

Omosuyi urged political actors to embrace fairness, tolerance, and respect for divergent views, stressing that a vibrant opposition is essential for good governance. He also called on party members and stakeholders in Ondo State to remain united and committed to strengthening the ADC ahead of future political engagements.

Starnews NG reported on Thursday that Nigeria’s apex court has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately restore the ADC to the ballot for the 2027 general elections, marking a major victory for the opposition party.

In its ruling, the Supreme Court of Nigeria affirmed the leadership of David Mark, effectively resolving the party’s protracted internal crisis and overturning actions that had led to its earlier delisting.

This decision follows weeks of uncertainty after INEC announced it had complied with a court directive to remove the ADC from the ballot amid ongoing legal disputes over the party’s leadership.

With the latest judgment, the ADC is now cleared to participate fully in the 2027 electoral process. The ruling also opens the door for prominent opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, to consolidate their political ambitions on the party’s platform ahead of the primaries.
