President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of fresh and renewed appointments across strategic federal institutions, spanning education, energy, infrastructure, and regulatory agencies, in what appears to be a broad administrative recalibration under his Renewed Hope governance framework.
April 29, 2026 — The appointments cut across multiple sectors, with emphasis on technical expertise and institutional continuity. In the education sector, Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu was appointed Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council (NECO), while Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi retained his position as Registrar/Chief Executive.
Prof. Babatunde Salako was named Chairman of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and Prof. Idris M. Bugaje was retained as Executive Secretary of the same body. Dr Bongfa Binfa was also appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, while Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi had her tenure renewed as Director/Chief Executive of the National Library of Nigeria.
In the energy and infrastructure space, Prof. Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu was appointed Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), while Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz was retained as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
These appointments are viewed as critical to Nigeria’s power sector stability and energy transition coordination.
Within regulatory and revenue agencies, Amina Gamawa and Abdullahi Muktar were appointed Commissioners at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). Hon. Magaji Da’u Aliyu was named Managing Director of the Sheda Science and Technology Complex (SHESTCO), while Engr. Adesayo Olusegun Michael was appointed Managing Director/CEO of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA).
Analysts say the pattern reflects a governance strategy anchored on technocratic retention, sectoral stability, and institutional restructuring rather than wholesale political replacement.
Supporters argue it strengthens continuity and expertise in critical agencies, while critics caution that repeated renewals across key institutions may raise concerns about concentration of administrative influence.
Overall, the appointments reinforce Tinubu’s broader approach of consolidating control over strategic governance sectors while maintaining operational continuity within Nigeria’s public service architecture.
