Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have rescued five victims of an armed robbery attack and arrested three suspects following a swift operation along Ondo Road in Ondo State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday between Ita-Oba and Oboto, along a major route linking Ondo and Akure.
According to police authorities, a commercial vehicle conveying five passengers was intercepted by armed men and diverted into a nearby bush, where the victims were dispossessed of their belongings.
The victims were identified as Sunday Omodele, 63; Osedimilehin Peter, 29; Osedimilehin Ifeoluwa, 18; Osedimilehin Florence, 56; and Ademola Regina.
Police said a distress call triggered a rapid response involving officers of the command alongside the Ondo State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun.
The joint operation led to the successful rescue of all victims, who were found unharmed.
During the operation, three suspects Akinyemi Olamilekan, Mutaka Ali, and Atiku Abubakar were arrested in connection with the crime.
Authorities confirmed that the suspects have provided useful information to investigators and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Speaking on the development, the command, led by Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal, reassured residents and commuters of its commitment to securing highways and major transit routes across the state.
The police added that routine patrols, surveillance, and intelligence-led operations have been intensified to prevent similar incidents and ensure swift emergency responses.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, emphasizing that timely and credible information is critical in combating crime.
The command also commended the professionalism and prompt response of officers involved in the operation, describing it as a reflection of its dedication to protecting lives and property across the state.
