A 25-year-old woman, Maimunatu Idris, has been arrested by the Kano State Police Command for allegedly severing her boyfriend’s genitals during a violent altercation at a hotel in Kano State.
The incident reportedly occurred at Durbar Hotel in the Badawa area of Kano. According to police, the suspect, who hails from Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, allegedly attacked the victim with a knife after discovering he planned to marry another woman.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said detectives swiftly responded to the distress report, arrested the suspect at the scene and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack.
He added that the victim was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment, while investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer led a team of detectives to the scene. The suspect was arrested and the weapon was recovered as an exhibit, while the victim was taken to hospital for medical attention,” Kiyawa said.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, condemned the attack, warning members of the public against taking the law into their own hands in resolving personal disputes. He assured residents that a thorough investigation would be conducted and that anyone found culpable would face prosecution in accordance with the law.
An eyewitness, identified as a security operative near the hotel, alleged that the suspect invited the victim to lodge at the facility after learning of his alleged plans to end their relationship and marry another woman. The witness claimed the attack occurred while the pair were together in the hotel before the woman was restrained and handed over to the police.
The police, however, maintained that investigations are ongoing to establish the exact sequence of events surrounding the incident.
