Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have arrested a suspected drug trafficker accused of supplying illicit substances to armed bandits operating in parts of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed that the suspect, identified by the alias “Dunbuje,” was apprehended on July 15 by officers attached to the Central Police Station in Funtua following actionable intelligence.
According to the police, the suspect was tracked and arrested at about 5 p.m., after which officers conducted a search that led to the recovery of 500 tablets of the illicit drug known as D5.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly distributed the drugs to armed bandits and other criminal elements active in Funtua and surrounding communities, providing logistical support for their operations.
The police said the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue to identify members of the distribution network, trace the source of the drugs and apprehend other suspected accomplices.
Authorities added that the suspect will be arraigned in court after the investigation is concluded.
Commending the operatives for the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage, praised their professionalism and swift response. He reiterated the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks by cutting off their drug supply chains and other logistical support.
The police also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information that will assist security agencies in combating crime across Katsina State.
