Police Arrest Suspect Over Grievous Assault on Woman in Bauchi Hotel

Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command attached to C Division have arrested a 20-year-old suspect in connection with a case of grievous assault involving a female guest at a hotel in Bayan Gari area of Bauchi metropolis.

The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Haruna of Tirwun area, was arrested following a distress call received by the Officer-in-Charge of Bayan Gari Police Out Station on May 7, 2026, at about 9:00 p.m.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, a member of the management staff of Happiness Garden Hotel alerted the police that an intruder had entered one of the hotel rooms and attacked a female guest.

Police said the incident occurred at about 8:35 p.m., prompting the immediate deployment of officers to the scene.

Upon arrival, the officers reportedly found the 40-year-old victim with severe knife injuries on her face, chest and hands. She was immediately evacuated to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention and is currently responding to treatment.

The police further disclosed that the suspect was arrested at the scene, while the knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered as exhibit.

The Command stated that the suspect remains in custody and is undergoing investigation at the division before transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the swift response of the officers and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
