Residents of Shuwa community in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State staged a peaceful protest on Friday following a deadly attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents that reportedly left one person dead and eight others abducted.
The demonstrators on Friday, made up of women, youths, children and elderly residents, marched through the community demanding improved security and an end to repeated insurgent attacks in the area.
Chanting slogans calling for peace and protection, the protesters expressed frustration over what they described as worsening insecurity and the inability of authorities to prevent recurring attacks.
Commercial and farming activities were temporarily halted as residents joined the demonstration to draw attention to the growing humanitarian crisis affecting the border community.
Madagali, the home local government area of Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has suffered repeated attacks from Boko Haram insurgents over the years, leading to killings, abductions and mass displacement.
Residents said fear has continued to spread across the area, with many farmers reportedly abandoning their farmlands due to concerns over fresh attacks.
The latest protest came barely a week after Governor Fintiri warned terrorists to leave Adamawa State or face intensified military action.
Despite the warning, locals say insurgent activities have continued, leaving communities vulnerable and residents living in fear of further violence.
The attack has renewed concerns over security challenges in parts of northeastern Nigeria still battling insurgency more than a decade after the conflict began.
