The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued a victim in the Isua Akoko area of the state after a distinctive head injury reportedly exposed the suspect during a coordinated operation.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the breakthrough followed a report that two young men who went to Ipesi Akoko for cattle rearing were attacked, with one of them abducted.
Police said they immediately launched an intelligence-led operation which led to the safe rescue of the victim.
The victim later narrated that he was abducted at night by three suspects and, in the process of resisting, inflicted a head injury on one of his attackers.
Acting on this information, operatives of the Isua Division tracked and arrested a man spotted at Obasanjo Motor Park in Isua who had a visible head injury matching the victim’s description.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to being part of the kidnapping gang. The victim also identified him, confirming the injury as the same sustained during the attack.
The police added that the rescued victim has been taken to a hospital for treatment, while the suspect has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of inquiries.
