The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with a violent clash that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man in Anguwan Makafi area of Bauchi metropolis.
Police said the incident occurred on August 26, 2026, after a young man identified as Adamu Abdullahi, popularly known as Baba Budi, was allegedly stabbed in front of a shop in the area.
According to the police, the stabbing sparked a confrontation between groups of youths from Anguwan Makafi and Anguwan Yola communities, leading to a disturbance of public peace and raising concerns among residents.
The Divisional Police Officer of C Division reportedly led a team of officers to the scene shortly after receiving the report. The police said the situation was brought under control and the youths involved were dispersed to prevent further violence.
Adamu Abdullahi was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where he was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.
During a follow-up operation, police arrested five suspects in connection with the incident. They were identified as Bashir Idris, also known as Mado; Musa Dahiru; Marwan Mustapha, popularly called Degree; Aliyu Dahiru, known as Jida Kanka; and Bashir Aliyu, also known as Bash
Police also disclosed that another individual, Aliyu Ibrahim, sustained injuries during the disturbance and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Authorities said his condition is stable.
The body of the deceased has since been released to his family for burial after necessary police procedures were completed.
To prevent further unrest, security operatives have intensified patrols in the affected communities, while residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the violence and directed a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
He also warned against reprisals and acts of jungle justice, stressing that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
Police authorities said investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be arraigned in court upon completion of the inquiry.
