The mother of an eight month old baby girl in Bauchi State has appealed to authorities to ensure justice is served after police arrested her husband over allegations that he sexually abused the child in Toro Local Government Area.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the arrest of the suspect, identified as Balarabe Adamu, following a report received on August 26, 2026.
According to the police, the suspect, who is the child’s stepfather, allegedly assaulted the infant after the baby was brought to his residence by her mother. The victim was subsequently taken to General Hospital, Toro, for medical examination and treatment.
The child’s mother, who expressed shock and distress over the incident, called on law enforcement agencies and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that justice is not compromised.
She said the incident has left the family devastated and appealed for support and protection for the child as the case progresses.
Police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said operatives attached to the Gumau Division acted swiftly after receiving the report and arrested the suspect, who is currently in custody while investigations continue.
“The victim was immediately taken to hospital for medical examination and treatment, while the suspect was arrested and is undergoing investigation,” the police statement said.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged act and assured the public that the command would pursue the matter diligently.
He vowed that the suspect would be prosecuted if investigations establish a case against him, stressing that the police remain committed to protecting vulnerable persons and combating sexual violence.
“The case will be thoroughly investigated and the suspect charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation in accordance with the law,” the commissioner said.
The police command reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards sexual offences and child abuse, urging parents, guardians and community leaders to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected cases to security agencies.
As investigations continue, residents and child rights advocates have called for a transparent process to ensure accountability and justice for the victim.
The suspect remains innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
