The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a stolen motorcycle in Yelwa area of Bauchi metropolis.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, the incident occurred on April 22, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m., when officers attached to ‘E’ Division Yelwa received a distress call from a concerned resident of Yelwan Tudu, who requested anonymity.
The report indicated that an unidentified assailant attacked one Hajiru Adamu, 27, of Yelwa Mutari, striking him on the head with a sharp object before making away with his motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer.
Police patrol teams, in collaboration with members of the community, swiftly mobilised and trailed the suspect. During an attempt to escape, the suspect reportedly sustained injuries and was subsequently apprehended, while the stolen motorcycle was successfully recovered.
The suspect was immediately taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention and is currently receiving treatment under police supervision.
The recovered motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer with registration number MSA 423 VC, is in safe custody at the ‘E’ Division Yelwa and will be handed over to its rightful owner upon completion of investigation and necessary legal procedures.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended residents of the area for their cooperation and timely information, urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence. He reiterated that the Command will not tolerate criminal activities in the state.
Preliminary investigation into the incident is ongoing, after which the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while advising motorcycle owners to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
