A student of the University of Jos, identified as John Arum, has been subjected to horrific torture after being abducted by suspected bandits while travelling from Jos to Kaduna.
Arum was reportedly kidnapped alongside six others after gunmen intercepted their vehicle along the highway. The attackers are now demanding a ransom of ₦30 million for his release.
In a disturbing video circulating online, the student is seen being brutally beaten with sticks by his captors. Despite repeatedly begging for his life, the assailants continued the assault, appearing determined to inflict maximum pain.
At one point, they forced him to lie face-down, placed a heavy stone on his back, and pressed a rifle against his head while flogging him.
“Please don’t kill me… I’m begging you,” Arum cried in the footage, his voice filled with fear and desperation.
The attackers later compelled him to make a public plea for ransom. Visibly weak and distressed, he disclosed that seven people were abducted during the attack and appealed for urgent help to secure his freedom.
Sources indicate that the video was recorded using the victim’s mobile phone and sent to his coursemates, allegedly to pressure his family and associates into raising the ransom.
As of the time of reporting, the condition and whereabouts of the other six abducted victims remain unknown.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage among Nigerians, with many calling on security agencies to act swiftly to rescue the victims and bring those responsible to justice.
