The Plateau State Government has filed terrorism charges against five suspects in connection with the deadly attack on Angwa-Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area.
The charges were initiated on April 22, 2026, following investigations into the violent incident that left several residents dead and others injured in the community.
Authorities said the suspects are being prosecuted under Nigeria’s terrorism laws for their alleged roles in the killings, which have been widely condemned by both state and federal authorities.
The Angwa-Rukuba attack, which occurred in late March 2026, triggered nationwide outrage after gunmen reportedly opened fire on residents, leading to multiple casualties and heightened tensions in the area. Security agencies subsequently launched operations to track down those responsible.
Officials in Plateau State said the decision to file terrorism charges reflects the seriousness of the offence and the government’s resolve to ensure accountability and justice for victims.
They also reiterated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects believed to be involved in the attack.
The development comes amid intensified security operations in Plateau, where authorities have increased deployments and surveillance following a series of violent incidents.
The move signals a shift toward stricter legal responses to communal and armed attacks, as governments increasingly adopt terrorism classifications to address rising insecurity and deter future violence.
