Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, has acknowledged that he has no evidence to establish his claim that he won the poll.

Obi made the admission during an interview with BBC Africa while maintaining that he remains convinced he won the election.

Asked to provide evidence supporting his position, the former Anambra State governor said, “There’s no evidence. Everything is not based on evidence.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the February 2023 presidential election.

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) placed second, while Obi finished third in the official results announced by the electoral commission.

Obi and Atiku subsequently challenged the outcome before the Presidential Election Petition Court, but their petitions were dismissed.

The Supreme Court later affirmed Tinubu’s victory, bringing the legal challenge to the election outcome to an end.

During the BBC interview, Obi also spoke about the removal of fuel subsidy and rejected suggestions that his position on the policy had changed.

He maintained that his position on the subsidy issue remained consistent despite criticisms over his previous comments.
