Dan Osa‑Ogbegie, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, has resigned his membership of the opposition party and publicly declared his support for the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
On Friday, March 13, 2026, Osa‑Ogbegie said in a statement that after careful reflection, consultations with associates, and close observation of the state’s political realities, he concluded that the PDP has struggled with internal cohesion and lacks a credible opposition platform ahead of major political contests.
Citing concerns about the opposition’s inability to organise effectively and the absence of credible PDP aspirants in key races, he said his decision was anchored on what he believes will best serve the development and stability of Edo State. Osa‑Ogbegie described Governor Okpebholo as “a friend and a brother” whose leadership, he argues, aligns with the needs and aspirations of the people.
Political analysts view the defection as a significant setback for the PDP in Edo, which lost the governorship to Okpebholo in the last election. Supporters of the ruling APC say the move underscores growing challenges for opposition parties in maintaining unity and relevance in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
