Fresh panic has gripped residents of Ibadan following the abduction of a young woman by suspected kidnappers, further highlighting the growing insecurity in Oyo State and across Nigeria. The incident has sparked fear among residents, many of whom now worry about safety even within their own homes.
This development was reported on April 11, 2026, as the victim, identified as Adetutu Aderibigbe, was abducted by four masked gunmen in the Bolumole area, off Ring Road in Ibadan. According to the Oyo State Police Command, the attackers trailed her to her residence and seized her at the gate while she was trying to enter her home, before whisking her away in an unregistered vehicle.
Police spokesperson DSP Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed that the command has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, with tactical teams deployed and forensic investigations already underway.
Authorities also assured the public that all necessary resources are being mobilized to ensure the victim’s safe rescue.
The incident underscores a troubling reality: kidnappers are becoming more daring, striking victims even at their residences.
As fear spreads, residents are increasingly questioning the effectiveness of current security measures.
Until such crimes are decisively addressed, the sense of safety in many Nigerian cities will remain fragile and uncertain.
