The armed group responsible for the abduction of students and teachers in Oyo State has reportedly made fresh demands for the release of the victims.
As of Saturday, 23 May 2026, security agencies and the Oyo State Government continue intensified rescue operations aimed at locating the captives and dismantling the criminal network behind the attacks.
The victims were abducted during coordinated attacks on schools in Esinele, Yamota, and Alawusa communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Reports indicate that the kidnappers are insisting on direct negotiations with top government officials while rejecting intermediary discussions involving local leaders and families.
Authorities have already confirmed arrests of suspected collaborators linked to the incident.
The crisis has generated nationwide outrage, with labour unions, religious bodies, and civil society organisations demanding urgent government action to protect schools and vulnerable rural communities.
Analysts warn that the continued targeting of schools by armed groups threatens education, community stability, and public confidence in national security structures.
