A social media exchange involving a senior journalist with TVCNEWS has sparked outrage following a controversial remark directed at Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The controversy began after Iretidola Akinrowo Ojekhoa raised concerns on Facebook over what she described as an increasing wave of resignations among aides of the Ondo State governor. Questioning the development, she wrote:
“SSA on Diaspora matters resigns. Why are so many leaving Mr Governor like this? It does not make political sense! Usually, people leave when the government is about six months away from the end of its tenure because they would want to enjoy the office until the end, but this office be like say e no sweet?”
The discussion took a dramatic turn when Ayodele Ezekiel Ozugbakun, a Bureau Chief with TVC News in Abuja, allegedly responded in the comment section by describing the governor as “the most useless governor in Nigeria.”
The remark quickly triggered backlash from social media users and media stakeholders.
Among those who condemned the statement was Olumide Akinrinlola, Publisher of Starnews NG, who described the comment as unprofessional and unacceptable for a journalist occupying a prominent public position.
In a statement shared on his verified Facebook page, Akinrinlola said:
“I take exception to the comment made by Ayodele Ezekiel Ozugbakun… referring to our state governor as ‘the most useless governor in Nigeria.’ This is highly unprofessional behaviour for someone in such a prominent position at TVC. He has crossed a line that should not be crossed.”
He further described the remark as gross misconduct for an employee of a broadcast station serving the public, stressing that media professionals must uphold ethical standards in public discourse.
“While I do criticise the governor and others to hold them accountable, I would never stoop to making unprofessional remarks like this. It is an insult to the office of Alagbaka and is entirely unacceptable. He should withdraw this statement and apologise immediately,” he added.
The incident has reignited conversations about professionalism, responsibility, and ethical conduct among journalists and public commentators, particularly on social media platforms where personal opinions can quickly assume institutional implications.
Observers say the controversy underscores the growing demand for respectful and constructive engagement in discussions surrounding governance and public accountability in Ondo State.
