Unconfirmed reports are swirling across international media that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei may have been killed following coordinated military strikes on Iran by Israel and the United States.
According to multiple sources, the joint operation targeted key strategic locations in Iran in the early hours of Saturday, February 28, 2026. Among the areas reportedly hit was the vicinity of the Supreme Leader’s compound in Tehran.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was quoted as saying that “all indications show this tyrant is no longer with us,” suggesting that intelligence available to his government points to Khamenei’s death.
Israel described the strikes as “pre-emptive,” framing them as necessary defensive action. The country’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, stated that the operation was aimed at removing “threats against the State of Israel.” Israeli officials further claimed that several high-ranking Iranian figures were eliminated during the assault, though they did not release detailed identities.
On the other side, Iranian authorities have strongly denied reports of Khamenei’s death. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi insisted earlier that the Supreme Leader was “safe and sound,” dismissing the claims as misinformation and psychological warfare. He also described any attempt to force regime change in Iran as “mission impossible,” signaling Tehran’s defiance in the face of escalating tensions.
Despite these denials, some media houses like, Fox news and other news outlets have gone as far as reporting that Khamenei’s body was recovered following the strike. As of now, there has been no official visual confirmation or statement directly from the Supreme Leader’s office, leaving room for speculation and uncertainty.
