Osun PDP Endorses Governor Adeleke for Second Term

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke as its candidate for the August 15 governorship election under the platform of the Accord Party.

The decision was announced at an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting held at the party secretariat in Osogbo on Tuesday.

Speaking at the meeting, Sunday Bisi, chairman of the Osun PDP, directed all party structures — from polling units to the state executive committee — to give full support to Adeleke’s re-election bid on the Accord platform.

Bisi attributed the development to the leadership crisis at the national level of the PDP, which he said made it impossible for the party to field a candidate for the forthcoming election.

According to him, the state chapter would not allow internal disputes at the national level to jeopardise the political future of Osun.

Responding, Adeleke acknowledged his long-standing relationship with the PDP but said he left the party to secure his re-election prospects.
“I love PDP, but I have to leave to escape being trapped for my re-election,” the governor said, adding that consultations with trusted leaders informed his decision to join the Accord Party.

Adeleke urged PDP members and supporters to vote for the Accord Party in the August 15 poll, expressing confidence that the electorate would back the continuation of his administration.

On December 9, 2025, Adeleke formally defected from the PDP to the Accord Party. Subsequently, on February 28, Adewale Egbedun, speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, alongside 24 lawmakers and former Secretary to the State Government Moshood Adeoti, also joined the Accord Party.
