Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has taken an early lead in the ongoing collation of results from the Osun State governorship election.
As of Saturday evening, Adeleke had polled 177,572 votes, representing 50.5 per cent, while his closest challenger, All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, had secured 158,588 votes, representing 45.1 per cent.
The figures show Adeleke ahead by 18,984 votes, although the final result remains subject to the completion of collation across the state.
African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam was in third place with 5,917 votes at the time of filing the report.
Results had been received from 303 of Osun’s 332 wards, with collation continuing across the state’s 30 local government areas.
According to the figures, 361,500 voters had been accredited out of 845,100 registered voters, representing a 42.8 per cent turnout. The exercise produced 351,500 valid votes, while 7,200 ballots were rejected.
The Independent National Electoral Commission said 43.41 per cent of polling units had reported results as the collation process entered its concluding stages.
Adeleke, who is seeking a second term, is contesting under the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the election.
Oyebamiji, a former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, is the APC candidate.
