Former presidential campaign spokesman, Josef Onoh, has distanced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from comments allegedly made by APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe linking recent school kidnappings to political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections. Onoh insisted that the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers should be treated strictly as a humanitarian and security emergency rather than a partisan political issue.
Reacting to the controversy, Onoh reportedly emphasized that the Tinubu administration remains focused on securing the release of the abducted victims and addressing the broader insecurity challenges confronting the country.
He argued that attempts to inject political interpretations into the suffering of innocent children and their families risk undermining national efforts to combat kidnapping and terrorism.
The remarks come amid growing public outrage over the abduction of pupils, students, and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, an incident that has reignited concerns about school safety and the effectiveness of security measures across Nigeria. Citizens, rights groups, and religious leaders have continued to demand swift rescue operations and stronger protection for educational institutions.
Political analysts say the debate reflects the increasingly charged atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections, where issues of insecurity, governance, and public safety are expected to remain central to national discourse.
