In a significant development for Ondo State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration has taken bold steps to end the 13-year energy monopoly of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) by officially licensing Ore Power Limited and ASB Valiant Electricity Limited for independent electricity generation and distribution.
This initiative, facilitated by the Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau (OSERB), has received widespread applause from residents eager for a reliable energy supply, Starnews NG reports.

The news report of the reform sparked a wave of positive reactions on Sunday across social media, with many residents expressing their support for the governor’s efforts to alleviate longstanding energy poverty. Advocacy groups, particularly the “Bring Back Our Light” (BBOL) led by Pastor Olumide Akinrinlola, have long campaigned for alternatives to the unreliable energy supply, and the recent initiative appears to be a promising solution.
On platforms such as Facebook, residents have shared their enthusiasm:
- Sumonu Abdu Raheem said: “Good news. We hope for more.” Akinnmade Adenugba wrote: “Aiyedatiwa is working.” Olabanji Toluwaloju noted: “This will be good if implemented.”
In a continued outpouring of commendation, Olagodo Opeyemi wrote: “It will be a legacy project if finished and light begins to shine in the various households in that axis.” Segun Adesugba added: “The O’Datiwa meter has actually helped to eliminate estimated billing by BEDC.“
Olugbemi Gbolabo remarked: “It is a giant stride indeed at this critical period in the history of our great state.” Babatunde Joseph Ilebe referred to it as “good news,” while thanking the Governor’s adviser: “Good news, kudos to your adviser, sir,” he added.
Don Rinde, who is based in America, commented: “Good development, but I have to see it working first!” Meanwhile, Daniel Omo Adeola described the governor as “the best ever: ‘The best ever Gov. KUDOS to him,’” he wrote.
However, amidst the praise, some dissenting voices have emerged, reflecting a level of skepticism regarding the initiative:
- Samuel Omosule Sedara said: “I can’t find these companies online, not even a social media handle. What I see is Ore Industrial Park and ASB Valiant Company Limited, not ASB Valiant Electricity Limited.” Samuel Olowofeyku added: “Nothing is done to Irele light oo. Until there is light in my town, I cannot appraise Mr. Gov. Aiyedatiwa.”
-Olatunde Babs commented: “Talk is cheap. APC-led government is a disaster under these rascals, criminals, and scammers in power,” while later admitting he lacks information, stating that information is power, having been educated with a response.
As the state government moves forward with these reforms, the overwhelming support from residents clearly indicates a collective desire for change and a more reliable electricity supply. Governor Aiyedatiwa’s initiative has the potential to reshape the energy landscape in Ondo State, paving the way for a brighter future.
