The Ondo State Government has commenced the first phase of the distribution of 15 electricity transformers to communities across the state as part of renewed efforts to improve electricity supply, strengthen power infrastructure and reconnect underserved areas to the national grid.
The distribution exercise was flagged off on Monday, July 28, 2026, in Akure, the Ondo State capital, by the state government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The transformers, ranging from 100KVA to 500KVA capacities, are expected to be installed in communities facing prolonged power outages due to faulty or inadequate electricity infrastructure.
Speaking during the exercise, government officials said the initiative forms part of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to improving access to reliable electricity, stimulating economic activities and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
They noted that beneficiary communities were selected based on urgent infrastructure needs following assessments conducted by relevant agencies.
The state government explained that the intervention is expected to improve electricity distribution to homes, schools, healthcare facilities and businesses, particularly in rural and semi-urban communities that have experienced persistent power challenges.
Residents and community leaders were urged to protect the transformers from vandalism and misuse to ensure their long-term functionality.
Officials added that the transformer distribution marks the beginning of a broader programme to strengthen Ondo State’s electricity infrastructure, with additional phases expected to cover more communities as part of the government’s long-term strategy to improve power supply and support socio-economic development across the state.
