Ondo Council Boss dismisses rumours of school shutdown

By Sunday Ameh

The Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Taiwo Adegoroye, has refuted reports alleging that schools in the council area have been closed, describing the claim as unfounded and misleading.

Adegoroye said no approval had been given by the local government for the shutdown of any school, urging residents to ignore the report.

The council boss made the clarification in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Assistant on New Media, Comrade Olatunji Babatunde.

According to the statement, the report did not emanate from the chairman’s office but was the product of rumours and unverified information circulated on social media and other platforms.

Adegoroye commended residents and stakeholders who sought clarification before reacting to the report, noting that their actions helped prevent unnecessary tension in the area.

He maintained that schools across the local government remain open and that no directive had been issued by the council administration ordering their closure.

The chairman said he had contacted security agencies within the local government to address concerns arising from the report and to ensure that peace and order were sustained.

He assured residents that Odigbo remains peaceful and secure, urging students, teachers, parents and other members of the public to continue their normal activities without fear.

Adegoroye also praised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for efforts aimed at strengthening security across the state and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property as well as promoting the welfare of residents.
