In the past two weeks, the Ondo State Amotekun Corps has apprehended 67 individuals suspected of criminal activities, stated Adetunji Adeleye, the state commander of the Amotekun Corps, during a briefing in Akure on Monday.

Adeleye highlighted that most of the apprehended individuals were suspected kidnappers, identified by their victims.

He noted that the suspects were found in possession of various weapons and were involved in offenses such as housebreaking, robbery, and murder. Furthermore, three of the apprehended individuals had prior criminal records.

Adeleye emphasized the commitment of the corps and other security agencies to ensuring the safety of residents and promoting socio-economic activities within the state.

Expressing concern, the Amotekun commander addressed the issue of individuals falsely claiming to be hunters while trespassing into state reserves, particularly young men.

According to him, the state government will not tolerate anybody without a genuine excuse to be in the forest reserves.

“A worrisome group that we observed recently is young men in their hundreds, saying they are hunters with dogs entering the nooks and crannies of the state.

“We must know why he is coming, and he must have a reference point, not just tell us that you are coming from up north and want to go into our forest reserves and hunt.

“We are not opposed to hunting, but we have rules and regulations guiding whoever wants to enter our reserves, so we have sent them back to their states on the governor’s directive,” he said.
