AKURE – Work on the Oyemekun–Oba Adesida Flyover Bridge has entered a critical construction phase, with contractors intensifying efforts on the foundation of the major infrastructure project.
A visit by Starnews to the project site on Saturday showed engineers and heavy-duty machinery working on different sections of the site. Site supervisors said more than 350 foundation piles had been installed out of the total required for the structure.
The 2.38-kilometre flyover is designed to run from Adegbola Junction to the St Matthias/NNPC corridor. The project will feature 94 spans and nearly 1,000 piles.
When completed, the flyover is expected to ease traffic congestion along one of Akure’s busiest routes, where residents and motorists often experience delays during peak periods.
The ongoing work involves coordination between the Ministry of Infrastructure and the primary contractor, Bulletin Construction Company. Traffic-management measures are also being reviewed to reduce disruption around the construction zone.
With more than 350 piles already installed, work on the project’s foundation is steadily progressing. The completed flyover is expected to improve traffic movement and strengthen the city’s transport network.
The Oyemekun–Oba Adesida Flyover reflects Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s vision of transforming Akure through strategic infrastructure that supports safer movement, eases congestion and promotes economic activity.
By sustaining work on this major project, the administration is demonstrating its commitment to delivering practical, people-centred development that will benefit residents, motorists and businesses for years to come.
