The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Abayomi Hunye as its governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, accusing him of impersonating the party’s candidate.
The party has consequently petitioned the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), demanding an investigation, arrest and prosecution of Hunye.
In a disclaimer issued on Monday, August 24, and signed by the APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the party said Hunye remained suspended and had no authority to represent the APC.
The party identified Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan as its recognised governorship candidate, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as his running mate.
According to the APC, the names of Olamilekan and Abiodun had been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, with acknowledgment slips issued on August 7, 2026.
The party said Hunye’s suspension followed a petition by the Executive Committee of Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area over alleged “nefarious dealings” and “anti-party activities.”
It said the suspension was subsequently ratified by the Ipokia Local Government Executive Committee on March 27, 2026, and approved by the Ogun State Working Committee on April 7.
The APC said it formally notified its national screening committee of the development on May 5.
Warning Hunye against continuing to present himself as an APC candidate, the party said anyone dealing with him under the guise of the party would be doing so at their own risk.
The APC also cautioned media organisations against providing him platforms to present himself as the party’s candidate, adding that its legal team had been directed to pursue contempt proceedings where necessary.
In separate petitions dated August 24, the party’s Director of Administration, Ayoola Peter Olajolo, accused Hunye of impersonation, conduct capable of causing a breach of peace and alleged violations of the Electoral Act, 2026.
The APC asked the IGP and DSS Director-General to invite Hunye for questioning, investigate the allegations and prosecute him if found culpable.
The party also urged the security agencies to restrain him from further parading himself as the APC governorship candidate.
The petitions were reportedly received at the Force Headquarters in Abuja and the DSS on Monday.
The development has further deepened the crisis surrounding the APC’s governorship ticket ahead of the January 2027 Ogun State election, with the party insisting that Olamilekan remains its only recognised candidate.
