A mother whose son was among the miners who died in Niger State has alleged that personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) detained her for five days and collected N45,000 from her.
The woman made the allegation while speaking about the circumstances surrounding the death of her son and other miners in Niger State.
According to her, the alleged detention and payment occurred while she was seeking information and assistance concerning the miners.
She claimed that she was held for several days before she was released after paying the money.
Her allegation has added another layer to the controversy surrounding the deaths of the miners, with questions being raised over the treatment of families and survivors following the incident.
The claim, however, remains an allegation, and an independent investigation would be required to establish what happened, who was involved and the circumstances surrounding the reported payment.
The NSCDC has yet to publicly confirm or respond to the specific allegation of five-day detention and N45,000 payment.
The development is likely to increase calls for transparency and accountability in the handling of the Niger mining incident and the treatment of affected families.
