DOGUBAYAZIT, Türkiye — A team of researchers is using robots, radar and drilling equipment to investigate a boat-shaped formation near Mount Ararat in eastern Türkiye, Starnews NG reports.
The site, known as the Durupınar Formation, has attracted attention for decades because of its unusual shape. Some believe it could be the remains of Noah’s Ark, which the Bible says came to rest in the mountains of Ararat.
The researchers recently used ground-penetrating radar to examine the area beneath the surface. They say the scans showed unusual features, including straight walls, right-angled corners and what appears to be a wide passage.
They also drilled into the formation and collected samples from about 60 feet below the ground. According to the research team, some of the samples contained organic material and possible pieces of ancient pottery.
The team believes these findings could point to a large man-made structure buried beneath the mud. They say the formation’s length — about 515 feet is similar to the 300-cubit measurement of Noah’s Ark mentioned in the Book of Genesis.
However, the claims remain controversial. Many geologists believe the Durupınar Formation is a natural geological structure created by volcanic materials, rock movements and erosion.
They argue that straight lines, cavities and organic material can occur naturally in the region. They also warn that radar images and soil samples alone cannot prove that a ship is buried beneath the ground.
Although some posts on social media claim that Noah’s Ark has been confirmed, Starnews NG can report that no such confirmation has been made by the wider scientific community.
The investigation is still continuing. More than 1,000 soil and rock samples are reportedly being examined in laboratories in Ankara.
The researchers hope to publish their full findings after further testing and analysis.
Until independent experts examine the evidence, the Durupınar Formation remains an intriguing mystery, but there is still no conclusive proof that it is Noah’s Ark, Starnews NG writes
