NNPP Founder Boniface Distances Party From Kwankwaso’s Alleged Move To ADC

The founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Boniface Aniebonam, has firmly stated that the party will not follow Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the African Democratic Congress, insisting that the NNPP remains independent of his political decisions.

Speaking on Sunday, Aniebonam clarified that members of the party are not part of Kwankwaso’s planned defection, dismissing speculations of a mass movement into the ADC.

His comments come shortly after Kwankwaso announced his resignation from the NNPP, citing the need for what he described as a “strategic realignment” in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

The former Kano State governor is expected to formally join the ADC on Monday, March 30.

Reacting to the development, Aniebonam maintained that the NNPP would not align with Kwankwaso’s new political direction.

He noted that a significant number of party members, particularly in Kano State, had already defected to other parties, especially the All Progressives Congress, while only a small faction of loyalists from the Kwankwasiyya movement might follow Kwankwaso to his new platform.

The NNPP founder further revealed that Kwankwaso and several of his allies had long been expelled from the party, stressing that there are no plans to readmit them under any circumstances.

Looking ahead, Aniebonam disclosed that the party has commenced early preparations for the 2027 general elections.

He emphasized that future presidential candidates would emerge through a transparent primary process, distancing the party from what he suggested were irregularities in its 2023 candidate selection.

While expressing openness to welcoming back some defected members, he made it clear that the party would not reconcile with individuals previously expelled over anti-party activities, underscoring the NNPP’s resolve to rebuild and reposition itself ahead of the next electoral cycle.
