The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has partnered with TomorrowNow to improve access to timely and reliable weather and climate information for farmers across Nigeria.
The collaboration is aimed at helping farmers make informed agricultural decisions, plan their activities more effectively and build resilience against climate-related challenges.
The partnership was highlighted during a sideline event on the third day of the Alliance for Hydromet Development Annual Meeting in Lagos.
Speaking at the event, NiMet Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Charles Anosike, emphasised the need to standardise climate information provided to stakeholders across the agricultural value chain.
Anosike stressed that the agreement must be results-driven and deliver practical benefits to farmers, noting the importance of making climate information useful for agricultural planning and decision-making.
He underscored the need for coordinated efforts to ensure that weather and climate advisories are consistent, accessible and capable of supporting the needs of agricultural stakeholders.
In his remarks, TomorrowNow Chief Executive Officer, Brian Miranda, assured NiMet’s leadership of the organisation’s commitment to expanding climate advisory services across Nigeria’s agriculture and livestock sectors.
The partnership is expected to strengthen the delivery of actionable weather forecasts and climate guidance to agricultural producers, enabling them to make better-informed decisions about farming activities and livestock management.
Improved access to reliable climate information is also expected to support efforts to reduce the risks associated with changing weather patterns and strengthen resilience across Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.
The collaboration comes amid growing recognition of the importance of climate information in supporting agricultural productivity, protecting livelihoods and improving the capacity of farmers to respond to weather-related uncertainties.
