The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned Nigerians to prepare for thunderstorms, moderate rainfall and strong winds expected across several states between Monday and Wednesday.

According to NiMet’s three-day weather outlook released on Sunday night, the forecast covers the northern, North-Central and southern regions, with varying degrees of rainfall expected across the country.

The agency said parts of northern Nigeria would experience cloudy conditions on Monday morning before thunderstorms and moderate rainfall spread across much of the region later in the day.

In the North-Central, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger and Plateau are expected to experience isolated thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall.

Parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Cross River and Akwa Ibom could also record light rainfall in the morning, while moderate rainfall is expected across much of southern Nigeria later in the day.

NiMet said the unsettled weather pattern would continue on Tuesday, with thunderstorms and rainfall expected across several states.

Parts of Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, Taraba and Adamawa are expected to experience morning thunderstorms and light rainfall, followed by moderate rainfall across much of the northern region.

In the North-Central, parts of Benue, Kogi, Plateau and Nasarawa may record morning thunderstorms and light rainfall before isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall spread across the region.

The agency also listed Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Edo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers among southern states expected to experience thunderstorms and moderate rainfall during Tuesday afternoon and evening.

For Wednesday, NiMet forecast morning thunderstorms and moderate rainfall over Taraba, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe, with the weather condition expected to spread across most parts of northern Nigeria later in the day.

Nasarawa and Plateau could experience thunderstorms and light rainfall in the morning, while moderate rainfall is expected across much of the North-Central region during the afternoon and evening.

In the South, parts of the South-East and coastal areas may record intermittent light rainfall in the morning before moderate rainfall spreads across the region later in the day.

NiMet advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports and relevant flight documentation from the agency to support safe and effective operational planning.

The agency has continued to issue weather alerts over thunderstorms, rainfall, strong winds and possible flooding risks across different parts of Nigeria.

Residents and motorists are also advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms and periods of heavy rainfall, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding and reduced visibility.

NiMet urged weather-sensitive sectors to remain attentive to official forecasts and take appropriate precautionary measures as the unsettled weather conditions persist.
