Fourteen-year-old Nigerian student Oluwadamilola Adeolu has emerged champion of the African Spelling Bee, clinching the junior category title in a remarkable display of academic excellence. The competition, held in Harare, Zimbabwe, was reported on March 24, 2026, marking another milestone for Nigeria on the continental stage.
Adeolu, a student of St. Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ado-Ekiti, outperformed contestants from over 30 African countries, demonstrating exceptional spelling accuracy, speed, and composure through multiple competitive rounds.
Her victory did not stand in isolation. Nigeria also recorded a strong overall performance, finishing as the second-best team in the competition, further reinforcing the country’s growing reputation in academic contests across Africa.
The young champion’s journey reflects years of preparation and consistency, having previously excelled in state and national spelling competitions before conquering the continental stage.
