A Nigerian man has revealed that he has been begging in Italy for nine years, claiming that the proceeds have helped him build a house in Nigeria and cater to his family.
In a video circulating on social media, the man spoke about his experience living in Italy and compared the country with Nigeria.
He said he considered Italy a better place despite relying on begging as his source of income.
According to him, his activities on the streets have enabled him to meet his family’s needs in Nigeria and make significant investments back home.
“I have been a beggar here in Italy for the last nine years and I have built a house in Nigeria and I take care of my kids and family very well,” he said.
The revelation attracted different reactions from social media users.
While some questioned the decision to migrate to Europe and survive through begging, others said the account highlighted the difficulties some migrants may face despite moving abroad.
One user also referred to the man’s mention of an illness, saying they would wait for the continuation of his account before drawing conclusions about his circumstances.
Other reactions focused on his claim that begging had enabled him to build a house and support his family, with some users expressing disbelief and others describing his experience as an unusual account of life abroad.
The video has since generated wider discussions about migration, economic survival and the expectations Nigerians often attach to living in foreign countries.
However, details about the man’s identity, his immigration circumstances, his income and the house he claimed to have built were not independently established in the report.
