Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a wanted soldier, Private Mohammed Yusuf, while he was allegedly attempting to flee to Cameroon after being declared wanted over allegations of supplying military uniforms and other operational items to terrorist groups operating in Nigeria’s North-East.
The arrest was carried out during a military operation along a border route leading into Cameroon. According to military sources, intelligence gathered by security operatives indicated that the suspect was trying to escape the country following investigations linking him to the illegal diversion and sale of military accoutrements to terrorists.
Preliminary investigations by the Nigerian Army reportedly revealed that Private Yusuf, who was attached to the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps, allegedly stole military uniforms, boots and other combat equipment from military stores before selling them to terrorist elements. Security officials believe the items may have been used by insurgents to disguise themselves as Nigerian soldiers during attacks on military formations and civilian communities.
Military authorities described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks aiding insurgents from within the security system.
The Army reiterated that personnel found collaborating with terrorists or engaging in activities capable of undermining national security would face the full weight of military law and criminal prosecution.
The suspect remains in military custody and is expected to face further interrogation as investigators work to identify possible accomplices and establish the full extent of the alleged arms and logistics supply network.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline within its ranks and intensifying operations aimed at eliminating terrorism and other security threats across the country.
