Veteran Nollywood actor, Hanks Anuku, has called on Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying his administration should be given time to address the country’s challenges.
Anuku made the call during an interview, where he expressed his support for the President and argued that Tinubu should not be blamed for problems that existed before he assumed office.
“It’s difficult for somebody in Nigeria to help you, you know. And I stick with Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Nigeria has to be patient for the renewal of this man in the country. It was not spoilt by him, you know. There were people there before him now. Why didn’t they go and attack those people? He has to fix it now,” the actor said.
Asked whether he believed Tinubu was doing enough to address the country’s problems, Anuku replied, “He’s doing great. Nigeria should be patient. We’re too much in a hurry.”
The actor also spoke candidly about the death of the mother of his children, describing the experience as painful and revealing that he struggled emotionally following her loss.
“When I lost my woman, you know, mother of my children, it’s deep and it hurts. I was depressed a bit. Sometimes I miss her and I just wanted to get out. It’s all good. God loves me more,” he said.
Anuku further disclosed that he had experienced betrayal from some friends, adding that he saw little reason to reach out to certain people who, according to him, wished him harm.
“From friends as well, they betrayed me. Yeah, but reach out to do what? Some want you dead. Some even want you to go mad and all that,” he said.
The actor also reiterated his support for Tinubu, saying he was prepared to associate with the President despite criticism from some quarters.
“I’m going to be hanging out with Mr President, so there’s nothing you can do about that. He has to serve his term, his tenure, you know,” Anuku added.
Responding to suggestions that he may have been paid to defend the President, the actor dismissed the claim and maintained that he preferred Tinubu to potential alternatives.
“Paid? How many people can be better than him? Because he’s this and that. Most people who are going to come are maybe after, maybe they’re even worse off. So the devil you know is better,” he said.
