The highly anticipated 20th edition of the Nigeria Oil & Gas Industry Games (NOGIG) has officially started, featuring a lively and motivational opening ceremony at the Indoor Sports Hall of Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
This event marks a significant achievement in fostering collaboration and camaraderie among professionals in the oil and gas sector.
Engr Sulaiman Sulaiman, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, emphasized the event’s role in promoting wellness, teamwork, and unity within the industry.
In his speech, Sulaiman welcomed representatives from 15 participating companies that will compete in 13 sports events over the coming week. “This edition unites our industry in a way that highlights our strength and collaborative spirit,” he remarked, reflecting on the scale and ambition of this year’s Games.
The Chairman expressed his appreciation to the Grand Patron of NOGIG, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., as well as to the Chief Executives and management teams from all participating organizations.
“Your commitment to staff wellness, despite the challenging operational demands, underscores a vital truth — our people are our greatest asset,” he stated, highlighting the significance of employee health and well-being in achieving operational success.
Sulaiman assured participants that the event had been meticulously planned, outlining comprehensive security measures and safety protocols to ensure a secure environment for everyone.
“Thorough security arrangements have been made in partnership with relevant agencies, and fully equipped medical teams will be on standby throughout the Games,” he said, reaffirming the commitment to providing a safe and fair competition.
Additionally, he encouraged all participants to embody the spirit of NOGIG, which goes beyond mere competition. “We are not professional athletes; we are professionals who recognize that a healthy workforce drives operational excellence.
Let discipline and respect characterize our interactions, and let fairness guide every match,” he urged, setting the tone for a week of sportsmanship and collaboration.
As the Games began, Sulaiman’s message resonated with the audience, reinforcing the notion that while competitors may be on the field, the industry remains united in its mission to power Nigeria.
“Together, we will host a Games that reflects our collective reputation,” he concluded, inspiring participants to make their mark in this prestigious event.
The 20th NOGIG is set to celebrate not only athletic talent but also the unity and resilience of the Nigerian oil and gas sector, demonstrating that collaboration is essential for success in any endeavor.
An impressive group of at least 1,200 athletes from various leading companies in the sector will compete for honors across 13 different sporting disciplines throughout the week.
