The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the results for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
A total of 126,291 candidates registered for the examinations, which were conducted in 12 subjects from April 20 to April 30, 2026.
Azeez Sani, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, announced the release of the results in a statement on Thursday, also revealing that the Award Committee has set a date for the 2026 BECE re-sit examination.
Folake David, the chairperson of the Award Committee and Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, represented Minister Dr. Maruf Alausa during the announcement. She expressed satisfaction with the processes leading to the successful release of the results.
“The results were released following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s Headquarters in Minna, Niger State,” she noted.
The re-sit examination for candidates with conditional deficiencies in Mathematics or English Studies is scheduled for July 22 and 23, 2026.
David explained that the re-sit exam aims to help affected candidates remedy their deficiencies in these subjects, allowing them to gain the necessary certification for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without the need to repeat a full academic year.
The BECE is conducted by NECO for pupils completing the nine-year Basic Education program in Nigeria and serves as a key assessment for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School.
