Ex-Guard, Two Others Nabbed Over Killing of Former OGTV Broadcaster

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of former Ogun State Television broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The suspects, including a former security guard who once worked for the deceased, were apprehended following what police described as extensive intelligence gathering, forensic analysis and technical tracking operations.

Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed the development on Thursday at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

According to him, officers received a distress report on June 21 regarding suspicious activities at Oyesiku’s residence in the Owode-Egba area of Ogun State. Responding detectives reportedly discovered signs of forced entry at the property.

Police said Adetayo was found dead inside the security post, while Oyesiku’s body was discovered in the living room of the main building. Investigators also observed that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 SUV was missing from the premises.

Ojajuni said the vehicle was recovered the following day through intelligence-led operations, despite efforts by the suspects to conceal its identity by removing the ignition key and registration plates.

A handwritten note allegedly left behind at the scene became a major breakthrough in the investigation. Police said forensic examination of the document generated crucial leads that helped identify the suspects.

The principal suspect, identified as 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Abeokuta. Further operations led to the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.

Police said Philip confessed to participating in the killings and admitted recruiting the two other suspects for the operation.

Investigators alleged that the attack was motivated by grievances Philip harboured from his previous employment with the deceased. He reportedly told detectives he intended to “teach her a lesson.”

According to police findings, the suspects first overpowered the security guard before using him to gain access to the residence, where both victims were later killed.

Detectives also recovered several items believed to be linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank and a pen.

The police commissioner said investigations are continuing and assured residents that all those connected to the crime would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to securing justice for the victims and maintaining public safety across the state.
