The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered a suspected international drug operation following the discovery of a clandestine methamphetamine production facility hidden in a remote location.
The operation led to the arrest of a Mexican national and four Nigerians believed to be connected to the illegal enterprise, which authorities said was equipped for large-scale production of hard drugs.
NDLEA officials described the raid as a significant breakthrough in efforts to dismantle transnational narcotics networks operating within Nigeria.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the facility served as a production hub for methamphetamine, with operatives recovering substances, chemical materials and equipment used in the manufacturing process.
The agency said the arrests have opened a wider investigation aimed at identifying additional collaborators and tracing the network’s local and international links.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), reaffirmed the agency’s determination to target drug syndicates and prevent Nigeria from being used as a base for illicit drug production and trafficking.
